Museums

There are many historical museums and markers to see, along with informational, self-guided tours. Our area is rich with musical culture, and in the summer there are many opportunities to check out live music all week long. The concerts take place in beautiful settings like 1st Street Beach in Manistee, the Asiala Log Cabin in Kaleva, the Jaycees Bandshell on the river in Manistee and in the serenely wooded Dickson Township Park.

Log Cabin Concerts

Walta & Panu Streets, Kaleva, MI

Fridays in August - 7pm - Bring a lawn chair

Donations accepted.

A committee of the Kaleva Historical Society arranges for the entertainment each season. They strive for a balance in the genre of music and attempt to meet requests from concert-goers and groups who ask to perform.

Today there are summer concerts in most of the surrounding towns almost every night of the week. However, outdoor concerts at the Kaleva Log Cabin have the distinction of being the first to be held and therefore the longest running.

"The past 25 years the Log Cabin has served as a venue for concerts, Fridays in August.

Businesses and individuals from the town support these concerts."

Spirit of the Woods Music Association

The Spirit of the Woods Music Association is simply a group of volunteers who love traditional music and get together to do the necessary work to bring musicians and music lovers together. Since 1978 we have put on an annual music festival, the Spirit of the Woods Folk Festival, held at the Dickson Township Park in Brethren, Michigan, the third Saturday in June.

Spirit of the Woods also presents concerts, dances, open mics, and special events during the fall and winter months

Volunteer, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Education - Ballroom for rent

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, The Ramsdell has served the Michigan coastal community of Manistee for over a 100 years. Built in 1903 by local lawyer and philanthropist Thomas Jefferson Ramsdell, the Theatre and Grand Ballroom were designed by renown Chicago architect Solon Spencer Beman. The Theatre was comparable to the best opera and vaudeville houses at the time of its construction and though extensively renovated over the years, retains much of its original architecture and charm.
